Glenveagh Properties donation enables community group to purchase three defibrillators
Navan First Responders will use equipment to provide potential lifesaving interventions
Leading Irish homebuilder Glenveagh Properties has donated €5,000 to community group Navan First Responders to enable it to purchase three mobile defibrillators.
Navan First Responders are one of over 200 groups around the country whose volunteers make themselves available to be called upon in the event of a person suffering chest pain, cardiac arrest, stroke or choking.
The group, which has 16 active members, has been operational since February 2015. When Ambulance Control dispatches an emergency ambulance in response to a callout, it also sends a text message to the Community Responder Team. If there is a member on duty they will attend the incident in their own vehicles.
In most cases the Community First Responders will be on the scene within 3 to 9 minutes. This early attendance can mean the difference between life and death for the patient, especially if they have suffered a cardiac arrest and require immediate lifesaving intervention.
Community First Responders operate under the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) Cardiac First Responder Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) and the National Ambulance Service direction.
Peter Millen, Director of Operations at Glenveagh Properties, said the group was providing a vital community service.
“As a company which is building and fostering new communities in the Navan area, we are delighted to support Navan First Responders and the potentially lifesaving service they provide to local residents and visitors to the town. This is what community spirit and volunteerism is all about and Glenveagh is eager to play its part.”
Ben Byrne, a Navan First Responder volunteer thanked Glenveagh Properties and invited anyone interested in helping out, to make contact.
“We would like to thank Glenveagh for their generous donation which will help us to continue to provide this service to the community. Glenveagh are part of building the community in Navan, not only in infrastructure but in the people that live here too.”
“We always welcome new members so if you are interested in helping out you can contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org or contact us through our Facebook page Navan First Responders.”
