How to Dress your Christmas Table

Muriel Simpson from H+G design group joined us at the Sanderling Christmas Show-Home to talk us through dressing a Christmas table with that ‘WoW factor’ and the latest themes in Christmas décor. Here are some of Muriel’s top tips:

Make the table look formal – it’s a special time of year so let’s mark that with table dressing for an occasion.

Use platters as shown in the video, to keep the table safe from hot plates – this also gives a great decorative effect to the table as it brings a brighter festive look.

Gather foliage from outside and spray with snow spray to give your table a bit more or a winter wonderland look - Muriel gathered leaves from the garden and sprayed with a lovely snow spray to make sure the table glistened from top to bottom.

Add place settings with name cards to make the table as meaningful as possible to family and friends.

Muriel recommends sticking to a colour scheme, so the table doesn’t get too overwhelming – in this video Muriel used blue, white, and silver.

How to get that Professional Coordinated Look with themed Christmas Decorations.

Muriel reveals that the secret is to stick to a theme and to be as coordinated as possible. In this video Muriel uses an example of the theme ‘Enchanted Woodland’ she creates this theme by bringing in foliage from the garden and spraying it with snow spray. Muriel included glistening white baubles to match to allow the Christmas tree to be as magical as possible.

Muriel even goes into detail about how you can re-use old Christmas decorations if they don’t match this year’s colour scheme. Muriel simply recommends to spray paint your old baubles silver or gold or use snow spray to alter the colour.

Muriel also has some fascinating insights into sustainability as a Christmas theme and elaborates on the ways we can use recycled materials to make new decorations by simply making them from wood or old newspapers or even buying recycled metal decorations. See an interesting example below:
