House-hunters looking for value are moving out to where Co Kildare borders Co Meath, on the 15th lock of the Royal Canal at Kilcock. Crucially, it remains within Irish Rail’s short hop zone. The town is 40 minutes from Dublin City Centre by car.

Kilcock also boasts a new greenway linking all the way from Maynooth to Cloondar, Co. Longford. The greenway is 112km in length and is suitable for cycling, walking, jogging or even the daily commute for kids to get to school or college. It takes approximately 18 minutes to cycle and a little more than an hour to walk. Attractions along the greenway include Maynooth Castle, Castletown House, Clonfert Pet Farm, Larchill Gardens.

With a population of about 6,000 people the town has a charming centre with bustling shops and cafés. The recently renovated Costa Café offers plenty of seating indoors and on the terrace outside to catch up with friends and the nearby Rye River Café offers an impressive menu including Sunday Roast for hungry greenway walkers. 

A few local recommendations include: Rye River Café, Timeless Café, O’Keeffe's Bar & Restaurant, Canvas Restaurant and Gregory’s.

There is a vibrant sporting life in the area. The Kilcock GAA club situated in the townloand of Branganstown, just adjacent to the 

 development, has won the Kildare Senior Football Championship five times and the club caters to over 60 teams. The town is also home to Kilcock Celtic a football club, a canoeing club, a basketball team (Kilcock Tigers) an athletics club and Rugby, Hockey and Cricket teams in North Kildare RFC. Kilcock Water Polo Club hosts regular polo matches in the summer months on the canal and the club boasts the highest junior membership of any club in Ireland

Kilcock is also home to a magnificent golf club with an 18-hole championship course. Lessons are available for those looking to take up the sport and the clubhouse was recently upgraded.

 in Donadea are both around a half an hour drive from Kilcock. They both make for great days out with the kids in tow. The Royal Canal Greenway boasts 112km of towpath that stretches from Maynooth in Co. Kildare to Cloondara, Co. Longford. It's a paradise for runners, walkers and cyclists. 

There are many options for a day out on the weekend with the beautiful Donadea Forest Park less than 30 minutes drive from Kilcock. The park includes the historic Donadea Castle and Estate, The small lake is brimming with ducks, waterhens and has a beautiful display of water lilies in the summer. There is a café open throughout the year.

With a great sense of community, beautiful outdoor spaces and numerous transport links, Kildare offers an idyllic way of live while still being able to join the hustle and bustle of the capital whenever you please.
