Celebrate the spring equinox at a fun family event in Vicarstown this month. On Saturday 29th March the free event will take place along the canal, starting at Vicarstown Canal Bridge. Families are invited to "walk out the holly and walk in the oak" as the community gets together to celebrate spring. You will need to bring a lantern, candle or light for this evening walk along the banks of the canal. There will be light creations along the way, from multi-medium artist and designer Evgeny Chubatyy. Participants will enjoy some free entertainment and refreshments will be provided, so well worth going along.
Vicarstown Canal Bridge is less than 20 minutes by car, from the centre of Portaloise. The Spring Equinox walk starts at 7:00 p.m. and it promises to be lovely free event suitable for all ages.
Portlaoise Farmer's Market is well worth checking out. It's choc-a-bloc with local produce and fresh food, with lots of artisan producers setting up stall. Happening just off Lyster Square in the centre of town, it's a great place for a morning wander, picking up some great food along the way. There is everything from fresh fish and vegetables to local artisan cheeses. If delicious home baking sounds good to you, you won't be disappointed with the array of scones, cakes and bread on show. You might even pick some of the wonderful jams and preserves on sale to go with your scones.
The farmer's market takes place on Friday mornings at Peppers Lane, just off Lyster Square. For more information visit Laois Farmers Market.
Throughout March, The Gallery at Mountmellick Library will host a solo show by artist Michael Comer. The exhibition reflects on the artist's thoughts on his "relationship with modern technology, spirituality and the art of the past". There will be 26 pieces in acrylic on show, so a comprehensive exhibition to enjoy.
