We take a look at some things to do in and near Swords over the next week or so.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

This year's St. Patrick's Day Parade in Swords promises lots of colour, music and fun for all ages. A community- based event, it will feature local clubs, community groups and organisers say the Swords parade "is all set to host a spectacular parade that captures the heart of Irish tradition and heritage".

This year's parade route starts at Coláiste Choilm, Dublin Road moving along Main Street, turning right at the Bridge Street junction, along North Street and finishing at Swords Castle Town Park.

The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day, Monday March 17th. Make sure to get there a few minutes early to get a good viewing point!

Wander in Ward River Valley Park

As the days get longer, a lovely spot to explore in Swords is the Ward River Valley Park, a linear park covering 200 acres. It runs between Swords centre and Knocksedan Bridge. Apart from being a great place for a riverside walk, it is also home to Swords Castle, an impressive medieval structure. Check out Swords Castle for visitor information.

Ward River Valley Park has some nice viewing points, picnic areas and sports pitches, so it's a perfect place for a family day out. It's signposted from the centre of Swords, so easy to access too.

Take in a Trad Session

This holiday weekend Swords will be brimming with fun in the run up to St. Patrick's Day and you can get into the festive mood by taking in a traditional Irish music session. The Cock Tavern at 31 Main Street Swords, will be hosting musicians for a trad session from 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, which looks like a nice way to round off your Sunday evening. Check out the Cock Tavern on Facebook for more information on this and other live music which will be happening every night from Wednesday 13th until St. Patrick's Day.

Just a few things to do in Swords over the coming week, from parks to parades and some music along the way.
