Students at Leixlip Educate Together National School enjoyed a fun and educational morning recently, thanks to a special visit from Glenveagh. Peter Morgan from the Health and Safety team delivered an interactive talk focused around site safety to the school’s pupils. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among primary school students about the importance of safety around construction sites.
The workshop was designed to be age-appropriate, aligning with the school’s child-centred, equality-based ethos. Central to the presentation was the storybook Sam And Sue, a colourful children's book designed to communicate complex safety messages in a format that younger children can understand.
Students were also introduced to real-world safety practices through a demonstration of personal protective equipment (PPE). They had the opportunity to see and try on items such as hard hats, high-visibility vests, gloves, and safety boots, gaining an understanding of how construction workers protect themselves on-site.
The session addressed core safety principles, such as maintaining a safe distance from construction equipment, recognising danger zones, and the importance of visibility near active worksites. Throughout the talk, students were encouraged to ask questions and share their own thoughts, fostering a dialogue that further reinforced their understanding.
Glenveagh representatives praised the students for their high level of engagement and curiosity, noting their thoughtful questions and enthusiasm for learning.
The session was warmly received by both staff and parents, who commended Glenveagh for translating important safety messages into a fun, interactive format. The initiative not only provided students with practical knowledge but also encouraged greater community awareness of safety practices around active construction sites.
