Glenveagh recently returned to Maynooth Educate Together National School to deliver a second health and safety talk, building on the success of the first. As part our schools engagement programme, we regularly host construction site safety talks adjacent to sites where we are active, as well as near our Maynooth Head Office, aligned to our community work in the area.
Our long-term vision for the communities we serve starts with education. That’s why we actively engage with local schools in bringing construction site awareness to primary school children, giving them the tools they need to keep safe. Health and Safety Talks are a key part of our work in local communities, making sure we deliver a message to children that's important but engaging along the way.
From making sure they are visible when crossing the road to watching out for vehicles and staying clear from risks, pupils are given the tools to become more conscious of their surroundings and how to keep safe when out and about. The talks are about positive reinforcement of safety messages, while also making children aware of things not to do near construction sites.
The students were shown what personal protective equipment (PPE) looks like, including hard hats, high-visibility jackets, gloves and safety boots, and learned why these items are essential for keeping construction workers safe. The children were also encouraged to ask questions, with many showing enthusiasm and curiosity about how buildings are made and what safety measures workers must follow each day.
