Two Ways to Style Your Living Room

Get that Show-Home Look

Scatter Box used the beautiful Glenveagh showhouse in Ledwill Park Co. Kildare to share some of their show home secrets to help create that professional interior designer look in our own homes.

Show homes are often well coordinated and fitted out with luxe furnishings. There's always a strong theme and design direction which runs throughout. They are dressed to create a mood and to instil desire. They somehow look bigger, brighter and warmer. In order to achieve the show house look, we have broken down how we did it in sections.


For our first show house look we have gone Maximalist! We created this look using bold prints and adding some statement pops of colour.

Maximalist can be a scary trend but works well when you mix patterns and textures together within the same colour palette. You don’t have to commit 100 percent to maximalism, but you can borrow the best of the trend to transform your space.

If you need inspiration to get you started, here are our top (easy) tips that we love.

Load up on lots of colour – cushions, throws and curtains.

On the sofa we have our gorgeous colourful Preen cushions teamed with Juno in soft sky blue. These cushions come in 3 sizes and are handmade in Ireland.


We have used our Abstractions art to pull the colours together, this striking piece features shades of Blues and Greens with pops of yellow and metallic foil detail. A statement piece like this helps to anchor the room and can give you a centre point which other colours and patterns can work around.


Strive for comfort and add only the decor that you love.

Maximalism is the best of both worlds, combining our most comfortable decor  with our favourite colours and accessories. To finish our maximalist look, we added our Kira throw in Blue, this mix of textures works together to add interest and personality to the room.


Don’t strive for perfection, strive for personalisation.

There is no wrong way to create a maximalist style in your home. You will be simply adding more of what you love to your home. All you need is a passion for creating a truly unique space.

An elegant space fitted with opulent touches doesn’t have to mean an interior that’s dipped in gold. Quite often the decor in show homes is actually very simple. It’s designed to be easy on the eye and for the furniture and accessories to do the talking.

Here are the top (easy) tips to create an immaculate home that oozes style.


 is a fantastic way to add visual interest and movement to the room while still sticking to understated elegance. Choose neutrals that vary in feel to create a rich, inviting look throughout.

For this look we used our luxurious handmade Scatter Box Nisha mink and Moonstruck champagne cushions in a range of sizes. The biggest mistake most people make while choosing cushions is buying all of their cushions in the same shape. Mix it up with different shapes and sizes of cushions to add depth and interest. Try to get two cushions in different sizes but in the same patterned material and then add in some solid colours. That’s just one way to make your cushions coordinate.


Accessories are a show home's best friend. Nothing says luxury quite like having a showstopping piece of art. It draws attention immediately and sets the tone for the room. To add to this opulent look we’ve placed our Keys art behind this stunning accent chair. It really pulls this look together and to finish we’ve layered one of our Kira throws in a sumptuous taupe velvet which features a gorgeous metallic detail.



For the master bedroom we recommend fresh crisp white bedding. Then dress your bed with a luxurious throw and plumped up cushions in a colour of your choice for that coordinated show home look!



We wanted to inject some opulence and show some personality so we paired a beautiful Cream headboard with our Vivaldi cushions featuring a stunning William Morris print and layered it with our Halo throw in Antique Gold.



We then added our New Americana art, this piece features warm ochre accents on a neutral backdrop.
