No matter what type of home you live in, both new-build and second hand, you can always find ways to be more energy-efficient. Being energy efficient not only has a positive impact on the environment but also has a positive impact on your bills! This is especially important in times of high inflation and rising energy costs.

New homes are now built with higher standards of energy efficiency. This makes them cheaper to run and contributes a lower carbon footprint than others. No matter if your house is new or old here are the steps you need to be more energy efficient in your own home:

Many people leave their appliances on standby mode, but did you know if you switch your appliances completely off you would soon be able to see a significant decrease in your bills! Appliances such as TV’s, game consoles and ovens all consume the largest amount of energy a day – and we all know we rely on these appliances the most.

- Here’s a couple of tips about how you can save energy when putting on your daily wash.

- Wash your clothes on the lowest temperature setting. By washing your clothes on a lower temperature setting it saves energy. When a higher temperature setting is used, more energy is then needed to heat the water.

- Only wash your clothes if you have a full load of laundry to go on. By doing this you are reducing the number of times you may need to turn the washing machine on in the week, this could have a big impact on reducing your electricity bill.

- When possible, chose to dry your clothes outside in the fresh air rather than inside in the tumble drier.

3) Make a conscious effort to monitor your gas, electricity, and water usage

Here’s a couple of tips on how you can reduce your usage of gas electricity and water.

- Have a shower instead of a bath, a bath uses a very large amount of water compared to what a quick shower would use.

- Turn the lights off once you leave the room. If you want to be even more energy efficient, replace your standard bulbs with LED bulbs as they use less energy.

- Only boil as much water as you need whether that’s to make a cup of tea or a pot of pasta!

These simple steps are the key to energy efficiency which can benefit the environment greatly. Energy efficiency means using less energy to get the same job done. In the process of doing this it can cut down our bills and can also reduce carbon emissions. Here at
