Wondering what’s happening in your area this month? We’re looking at everything from long walks on the beach to adventure parks in this month’s At a Glance with Glenveagh as we take a whistle-stop tour of what’s happening in Balbriggan.
Embrace the history of your local area by strolling through the grounds of Ardgillan Castle. There are tours of the castle, which was originally built in 1738, for those eager to learn more about the heritage of Balbriggan. For those who’d rather simply enjoy a scenic park on a summer’s afternoon, there is also a rose garden, a walled garden and an ornamental garden. Perfect for a picnic with the kids, an educational day out or any number of seasonal events hosted at the castle. Most importantly of all, it’s dog-friendly.
The Lark Concert Hall in Balbriggan is a beautiful, modern auditorium and Dublin’s newest venue for music, comedy, drama and panto. The theatre has a stacked roster over the coming months with plenty to see, including a Radiohead symphonic concert on September 21. A simple scroll through their upcoming events reveals something for everyone, including performances by Lisa Hannigan, Mundy, Phil Coulter and a show with comedian John Bishop.
There’s enough to do at Flynn Park that you’d never get it all done in one day, which is good news for anyone who needs to keep the kids entertained. The Balbriggan adventure centre includes a dedicated water park, a climbing tower and several specific activities such as paintball, archery, ziplining and ‘Crazi Bugz’ which is a safer version of quad biking for kids between the ages of 6 and 12. Day passes are available for €50 up to the beginning of October.
One of the main advantages of living in Balbriggan is that you can take advantage of the beaches all along the coastline. Depending on the weather you could relax on the sand and top up your tan or take the dog for a breezy walk along the shore. The Balbriggan seafront has plenty of natural beauty, such as the soft sands of the Lady’s Stairs Beach, or the King’s Strand which expands out beyond the historic 19th century Martello Tower. There’s nothing better than a dip in the Irish sea on a warm summer’s day, or even a cold morning if you’re brave enough.
Hopefully there is still some sunshine to be eked out of summer just yet, so you can get out and experience Balbriggan to the fullest. There is no shortage of things to do, so don’t miss out on making the most of sunny weekends and golden evenings...
