In this At a Glance with Glenveagh, we take a look at some great walks, within easy reach of Citywest. From walks in the mountains to park cycle, we've covered some nice spots to take in air.
One of the most enviable advantages of being based in West Dublin is that you are surrounded by a range of charming villages. One of the nearest villages to Citywest is Saggart Village, one of the nine traditional villages of South Dublin County Council identified for the Villages Initiative. Near walking trails that feature the Slade Valley and Bohernabreena, the village is home to cosy pubs and restaurants that are sure to make you feel at home during a day out.
While you are surrounded by busy towns, you can also always escape to the tranquility of the mountains. Areas such as Saggart, Citywest and Tallaght are all at the foot of the Dublin mountains at various points, and one of the most scenic trails in Dublin will lead you all the way up to the fabled Hellfire Club. The scent of the trees, the view of south Dublin stretching all the way to the coast, and plenty of space for a picnic makes this one of the best options of a weekend.
Corkagh Park, which boasts 120 hectares of land and was formerly part of a manor house and its estate Corkagh Demesne, is one of the most scenic areas where you can spend time in West Dublin and is right on the doorstep of Citywest. In addition to the ample space and wood trails, the park is also home to Ireland’s only purpose-built cycle track, giving you the perfect opportunity to take out your wheels and stretch your legs in an atmosphere that lets you train seriously or go at your own speed. Opening hours will expand slightly once we hit February and the park will stay open until 6pm.
Another benefit to being based in Citywest is that while you have the option of exploring metropolitan areas nearby such as Tallaght and Dublin city centre, you can also go west into Kildare and explore its many delights, including its charming town. You explore The Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens, one of the most uplifting attractions on the whole island, or treat yourself to some shopping (either window or actual) at the Kildare Village shopping outlets. Being in Citywest gives you the best of both worlds, so make the most of it.
