We're delighted to back sport in our local university and are proud supporters of Maynooth University (MU) women's and men's soccer programmes, which enable university students participate competitively in the sport. This January we've also supported Maynooth University teams' participation in the Irish Universities Football Union Harding Cup Tournament.
Maynooth University Soccer Club and Maynooth University played host to the Harding Cup from the semi-final stages and the Spillane Cup soccer tournament over three days in January. Bringing together teams from MU, TCD, UCD, UL, DCU and University of Galway, the three day event at Maynooth University is set to showcase the best of new university football talent. "The Harding" is unique in that it's a competition open only to first-year students, giving them experience of university tournament football. Running since 1970, the tournament is a mainstay in the third level football calendar and a great way to showcase new talent.
It takes a lot of people to get tournament ready; from pitch contractors to student volunteers and Maynooth Town FC to the organising committee. Maynooth University Sports Officer Paul Davis also says it's a real collaborative effort: "I would like to acknowledge our sponsors Glenveagh Homes, the University authorities and the MU Clubs and Societies Committee for their ongoing endorsement, our students in the men’s and women’s MU Soccer Club volunteering this week and the Sports Centre staff; your contribution is most valued". Glenveagh are delighted to support MU Soccer and wish the Maynooth teams all the success for upcoming matches.
