Leading Irish homebuilder continues to develop long-term programmes aimed at supporting communities and positively impacting lives nationwide.
Glenveagh, one of Ireland’s leading homebuilders, has announced Barretstown children's charity and Women’s Aid as its two charity partnerships for 2026. Chosen by the staff of Glenveagh, the 2026 partnerships will build on Glenveagh’s existing commitment to support communities and positively impact lives nationwide.
Barretstown offers free, specially designed camps and programmes for children and their families living with childhood cancer or other serious illness, supported by 24-hour on site medical and nursing care.Barretstown is recognised as a centre of excellence in childhood cancer care.Since it first opened its gates in 1994 it has provided much needed safe, therapeutic camps to over 125,000 Barretstown campers.
Women’s Aid is a national organisation working to prevent and address the impact of domestic violence and abuse of women since 1974. For over 50 years, the charity has supported generations of women and their children. The need for Women’s Aid services is increasingly vital, with the charity reporting the highest level of disclosures of domestic abuse against women and children in 2024.
Supporting the crucial services of these charities is a focus for Glenveagh as it continues to give back to communities. From employee fundraisers and volunteering, the business is committed to unlocking the potential of its communities and bringing people together to create a positive impact. Beyond this, Glenveagh’s Employee Community Fund initiative – the Hometown Heroes fund – encourages employees to apply for funding to support local grassroots charities and community initiatives, which has resulted in the business contributing over €10,000 to causes chosen by the employees.
To support Women’s Aid and Barretstown in the coming year, Glenveagh has earmarked several events to drive public awareness and fundraising efforts for its chosen charities. To support Women’s Aid, the homebuilder will host an internal coffee morning to mark International Women’s Day as well as staff support for various fundraising efforts throughout the year. It will also host an internal workshop to build colleague engagement with the Women’s Aid and raise awareness of its work.
For Barretstown, Glenveagh will look to support with ‘Helping Hands’ days where the team will maintain and improve facilities at the Barretstown estate in addition to fundraising opportunities at Glenveagh-run community events for the children’s charity.
Commenting on the launch of partners for this year, Annette McGarry, Head of Community Engagement at Glenveagh said: “At Glenveagh, we recognise the significance of supporting charities and in turn, helping communities across Ireland. As a homebuilder, we are focused on creating more than just houses but thriving communities that can prosper in the future. Barretstown and Women’s Aid are two excellent charities that make an important contribution to children, families and women across Ireland. Collaborating with charities and driving positive change are central in our values as a company, and we look forward to working with Barretstown and Women’s Aid to support their vital services.”
Dee Ahearn, CEO of Barretstown commented: “Barretstown is delighted to have been chosen as one of Glenveagh’s charity partners for 2026. We look forward to welcoming the team during the year to help out with projects at our campus to improve our facilities for the 32,000 children affected by cancer and other serious illnesses and their families who will participate in one of our life-changing therapeutic programmes this year. We need to raise over €10 million this year to fund our programmes and 96% of this comes from donations from generous individuals and companies like Glenveagh, with only 4% coming from government.”
Sarah Benson, Chief Executive Office, Women’s Aid said: “We are delighted to have been selected as one of Glenveagh’s charity partners for 2026, and we are deeply grateful to the staff for choosing to support our work. In Ireland, more than one in three women have experienced physical, psychological or sexual abuse from an intimate partner and everyday hundreds of women reach out to Women’s Aid for support and information. This partnership will help ensure that we can be there 24/7 for women who need our help. We look forward to working with Glenveagh throughout the year raising awareness and supporting them with the fundraising initiatives they have planned.”
