Wondering what’s happening in your area this month? We’re looking at everything from a celebration of one of Ireland’s finest actors to art exhibits in an 18th century castle in this month’s At a Glance with Glenveagh as we take a whistle-stop tour of what’s happening in Balbriggan and the surrounding areas.

See an Art Exhibition at Ardgillan Castle, January 18th-April 6th

Ardgillan Castle is arguably the jewel in Balbriggan’s crown, with its grounds, greenery and architecture evoking over three centuries of beauty. One of the most exciting things to see on the grounds in the early months of 2025 is two art exhibits which will soon launch: a solo exhibition “Sing for your Supper” by Rory Tangney in the main gallery rooms, and “Dividing up the Sky” an outdoor artwork by Mark Beatty. Both artists have a storied history of producing fascinating work and these exhibitions are not to be missed.

Walk Your Dog at Hampton Cove Beach, Anytime

Now that the cold snap appears to be easing off, it’s finally safe for both you and your dog to brave the winter weather again. If you’re based in Balbriggan, you could do a lot worse than taking your furry friend for a walk along the coastline and take in the beauty of Hampton Cove Beach in the low, January sun. Depending on your preference you can make the most of the pebbles at Hampton Cove Beach or migrate slightly further south to the stretch of soft sand at Lady’s Stairs Beach.

Stroll Down to Balbriggan Lighthouse, Anytime

The second-oldest in Ireland, Balbriggan lighthouse dates back as far as 1769. The dome of the lighthouse has been restored in recent years and a trip to the lighthouse is now an essential part of any walk along the town’s harbour. Achieve some tranquility by watching the trawlers go by and taking in the fresh air of the Irish Sea.
