Free Art Class Every Tuesday in July

Looking to practise a new skill or pick up a new hobby? This free art class in The Warehouse on Vauxhall Lane is open to all beginners and improvers. Led by an experienced pro, you’ll learn how to paint with oils - as well as have a great time with other class members. You’ll need to bring a couple of materials to get going - a canvas or two, a brush, jam jars/pots and old clothes, but everything else is provided free of charge. The class runs from 10.30-12.45 with a coffee/tea break included. Contact mcgovern_eileen@yahoo.co.uk for more information.

Balbriggan Film Club, 6th July

If film is your thing, head down to the Balbriggan Film Club. Their first event of the month is a film screening in the Balbriggan Library. The club is keeping the movie a secret but here’s a hint to guess it: what's another name for a day gone by and also a song by a legendary 60s band? For more information, contact Balbriggan Library on 01 870 4401 or email balbrigganlibrary@fingal.ie. The event takes place at 2pm on the 6th July.

Ardgillan House Fairy Tree Trail

If getting outdoors is more your thing, then you have to make use of the stunning Ardgillan House this July. Built in 1738, the castle and gardens offer an amazing glimpse into days gone by as well as a naturally gorgeous area to explore. Various events take place on the grounds year-round, but if your calendar always seems to be too busy to commit to anything, visit Ardgillan House in your own time. The Fairy Tree Trail is a superb way of getting to know the parkland, with an interactive map and quiz available here. Bring the kids along to learn about the trees dotted around the trail and much more, as well as the chance to see a fairy in its natural habitat. Learn more here.

Scéal Sessions Open Mic - 11th July

The Warehouse is hosting an open mic on a Thursday evening and it’s the perfect outlet to meet new people and enjoy some poetry, spoken word and music with members of the Balbriggan community. Performers and audience members are both encouraged to come. With free admission, you’ve no excuse to head down for what promises to be a wonderful evening. Sign ups for taking part begin at 7.30pm, with the event itself kicking off at 8pm.

Mundy at the Lark Concert Hall - July 13

Offaly man Mundy is performing live at the Lark Concert Hall on July 13. Singer of ‘Galway Girl’ and ‘July’ will work his usual magic on stage - you can expect a wonderful evening with one of Ireland’s most popular musicians of the 21st century. Mundy tours both solo and with his band and has played all over Ireland, U.K, Europe, Asia, Australia, USA and Canada, supporting the likes of Bob Dylan and R.E.M. The Lark Concert Hall is a stunning venue for the gig and recently won Ireland’s Favourite New Building in the Royal Architects of Ireland People's Choice Award. Tickets for the gig are on sale here.

July promises to be a busy month in Balbriggan, with a wide array of community events to enjoy. With plenty of options for the family or for just yourself, there’s something for everyone to do without having to leave Balbriggan.
