From traditional music to painting parties to film clubs and Antarctic drama, Balbriggan's got a lot going on for arts and music fans this weekend.
Kíla have been playing together since they formed a band in school in Dublin in the late 1980s. Renowned as one of Ireland's most influential groups in terms of traditionally inspired sound, they've often been described as Irish world music, blending Irish language lyrics, traditional music and instruments, with sounds from around the world. This Friday night they take to the stage at The Lark, Balbriggan's state of the art entertainment venue.
Kíla shows are never dull; their stage presence and enthusiasm for their craft is infectious, so well worth going to see. Tickets for Friday 26th July's show, priced €20, are available from The Lark Box Office.
Looking for something different to do on a Friday evening? The Warehouse on Vauxhall Street, Balbriggan could provide the answer. They're hosting a paint party from 7-9 p.m. on Friday 26th of July. The premise is simple; just come along and try your hand out at their creative painting social event for grown ups. There'll be a fun painting activity with all the materials provided. The event is also free! The organisers say that all you have to do is "bring a friend and some bubbles/drinks to enjoy".

Balbriggan Library's LGBTQ+ Book and Film Club returns this weekend. The club for adults, meets on the last Saturday of every month and alternates between discussing an LGBTQ+ book and watching an LGBTQ+ film. This month it's a film, so if you're interested just go along to the library at 10 a.m. on Saturday 27th July for this month's movie.
There's a reason Tom Crean Anarctic Explorer, Aidan Dooley's one man show, has played to sell-out audiences across Europe, Australia and the USA; it's won both critical acclaim and multiple awards. Dooley as Crean, tells the story of one of the world's adventurers, in a powerful performance. As one of the few people to travel with both explorers Scott and Shackleton, Irishman Crean, lived more than a full life, with some extraordinary bravery and resilience thrown in. This celebrated piece of theatre is being brought to The Lark in Balbriggan on Saturday night (27th July) for one show. Tickets for the performance are available here.
As ever there is lots to do around Balbriggan this weekend. Keep an eye out here for more updates in the coming weeks.
