We take a look at some things to do in and around Donabate over the coming weeks, from historic tours to strolls in nature and comedy shows.
Keep Saturday 8th March free for what promises to be a wonderful tour of Newbridge House, focussing on the remarkable women associated with the house. Discover hidden histories as you're taken on a grand tour of the house, delving into the lives of the women who shaped its future. The tour will bring guests through usually unseen archives and photos, giving you a unique insight into the lives of the women of Newbridge House. To top it all off you'll be invited to the Courtyard Kitchen for afternoon tea and scones, after the tour.
The tour takes place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday 8th March and tickets are available here.
Less than a five-minute drive from the centre of Donabate is the Rogerstown Estuary and Turvey Nature Reserve. A reclaimed salt mash, the nature reserve is a haven for birds, especially those wintering in Ireland and roosting in its marshes. The mud flats are great places to spot a huge variety of birds feeding.
Turvey Nature Reserve has plenty of walkways, so it's a lovely place for a spring stroll, where you can pass by hedgerows, meadow, marsh and Fingal Forest, which was planted by local volunteers. For serious twitchers there are two hides on site, so you can spot a range of birds from them. The reserve is a great place for a spring family stroll. Visit the Rogerstown Estuary/Turvey Nature Reserve Facebook Page, where you'll find all you need to know about routes and what you'll see along the way.
Anne Gildea comes to the Séamus Ennis Arts Centre with Further Adventures in Womaning, her brand new show. Billed as a hilarious adventure, this show promises lots of laughs on everything from influencers to to 1980s competitions and everything in between. Perfect Friday night entertainment on the 28th February at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available via the Séamus Ennis Arts Centre website.
