Donabate-Portrane Summer Festival proves to be a winning weekend - again!

Community, Carnival and Celebration at Portrane Green

The 10th and 11th of August saw Portrane Green turn into a world of carnival, crafts and music as the Donabate-Portrane Summer Festival took place. The festival, which has become a mainstay in the summer calendar, caters to all ages, interests and abilities; the festival itself had a sensory launch on Friday 9th August for children with additional or special needs, before the Green opened to the extended community on Saturday.

This year's summer festival was blend of bands, local dance groups, funfair rides, food stalls and lots more. Over the weekend, Portrane Green hosted bingo, musicians and even a mobile farm. Rounded off with a fireworks display, this year's Donabate-Portrane Summer Festival saw the community come together for a great weekend of events. Glenveagh are delighted to have sponsored the Music Stage this year and it didn't disappoint.

Hitting the Right Notes with the Glenveagh Music Stage

This year's Donbate-Portrane Summer Festival had a packed music line-up with something for everyone, from indie tunes to pop classics. The Glenveagh Music Stage hosted a range of artists and groups who entertained the crowds over the weekend, with more than 15,000 people viewing the acts.

Saturday's acts kicked off with All Things Eve; the Dublin based singer setting the scene for a great weekend. Saturday lunchtime entertainment was provided by the L&R School of Dance before the 4pm slot got into gear with the band Recall, who gave the late afternoon crowd a great show. Multi-instrumentalist and singer Neo followed with The Adults are Talking, a Strokes tribute band bringing us into the early evening. Tralee's Aftershock took to the stage on Saturday night giving a fitting end to first night on the Glenveagh Music Stage.

Music started before lunchtime on Sunday 11th with Bioluminescence, a 5-piece alternative rock band, opening the day's gigs. They were followed by a fun performance by the Helen Jordan Stage School. In the late afternoon singer-songwriter Harry Fennell was on stage, bringing some of his trademark ballads to the Portane Green crowd. A gear change saw psych rock group Taiyo take to the stage before Sunday's gigs came to a close with Marvin and The Grooves, who describe themselves as a "party band that stands out from the crowd" and they certainly did that as they rounded up the weekend Glenveagh Music Stage with a seriously crowd-pleasing set.

Donabate-Portrane Summer Festival 2024 was a wonderful community weekend and a testament to the organisers and the people of Donabate and Portrane. Glenveagh are delighted to have been a part of it.
