From the history of the border to the legend around Brigid, delve into some Irish culture in Laois over the next week.
As part of the Leaves an annual celebration of writing, music, culture and community, run by the Laoise Arts Office and Laois County Council, Laois Arhouse will be running an exhibition Finscéal - The Legend of St. Brigid throughout the month of November. Revered in many different guises, as a pagan goddess, mystic Abbess and Christian saint, Brigid is an intriguing part of both Irish myth and legend. The exhibition created by Orla McDonagh is really worth taking in. It's running in the Laoise Arthouse and LIbrary at Stradbally and it's free. This Thursday 21st November, Abbeyleix Library will be the venue for Birth of the Border, a talk with historian and author Cormac Moore, who'll bring us through some of the background to and effects of the Irish history from the era of Independence. Cormac is a Dublin-based historian and is currently working with Dublin City Council on its Decade of Commemorations programme. The talk starts at 6:30pm and no booking is necessary.
Just a few free cultural events in Laois this week.
