Wonderful winter walks in Meath
As the temperatures drop and the air gets crisper, now is the time to layer up and treat yourself to one of Ireland’s many beautiful nature walks. One of the nicest walks in Meath is in the rare habitat of Girley Bog, between Larch Wood and Bell’s Wood. Just over 20 minutes by car from Navan and less than 30 from Trim, it's a perfect place to take in the ancient habitat.
Coillte, responsible for managing Girley Bog, tells us that "it's a site of considerable conservation significance as it comprises raised bog – a rare habitat in Europe and one that is becoming increasingly scarce and under threat in Ireland". The bog walk consists of a loop which covers both forest and bogland. It's just under 6km and along the way you might get the chance to see a range of bird, plant and animal life.
