The magic of winter is all about pretty lights illuminating the night and the people at Loughcrew have been perfecting this art form over the past several years. This winter the theme of the light show is Snow White and the Seven Frozen Dwarfs. As always visitors will be stepping into an otherworldly realm packed with surprising and delightful installations that will make for the perfect winter evening out in a safe, relaxing and colourful environment. Visitors are instructed to book ahead with a family ticket (two adults and two children) costing €70.

As the temperatures drop and the air gets crisper, now is the time to layer up and treat yourself to one of Ireland’s many beautiful nature walks. On your doorstep in Meath is the rare habitat of Girley Bog, between Larch Wood and Bell’s Wood. A raised bog, the eco walk is a chance to see a variety of birdlife, plant and animal life, all explained through a number of interpretive panels along the walk. The waymarked loop is a little uneven and hiking boots are required, but at the end of the 5.6km trail you’ll have earned your rest.
