At a Glance With Glenveagh, Hollystown September '24

Wondering what’s happening in your area this month? We’re looking at everything from cycle routes to ancient attractions in this month’s At a Glance with Glenveagh as we take a whistle-stop tour of what’s happening in Hollystown.

The Royal Canal Urban Greenway

From Hollystown you can join Ireland’s longest greenway, The Royal Canal Way, at Coolmine. From there you can pedal along the scenic route which connects you to Castleknock, Blanchardstown, Clonsilla, Coolmine and many of the other neighbourhoods in Dublin 15. The greenway is also perfect if you fancy a jog or even a bit of wildlife spotting, with herons, swans, otters, badgers and foxes all common to the area.

St. Catherine's Park Food and Craft Market

Hollystown is surrounded by parks in every direction, including Dublin’s finest sports for relaxing. With Phoenix Park just to the south, you’re open to a whole world of activities and ways to spend your weekend, whether admiring Farmleigh or visiting the animals at Dublin Zoo. If you’re in the mood for a more lowkey outdoor jaunt, however, there is also St Catherine’s Park, which will play host to a food and craft market every Sunday until October. St Catherine’s also offers the opportunity to join in with sports, complete several scenic walking loops and even go canoeing.

Explore Rich History Only a Drive Away

The beauty of living in Hollystown is easy access to the parks of West Dublin and the rich history of Meath. From Hollystown you have some of Ireland’s most high-profile historical tourist attractions well within range. The many monuments of the Hill of Tara are a 30-minute drive away, as is the site of the Battle of the Boyne. Hollystown is also one of the best suburbs for access to the natural beauty of Bective Abbey and the ancient mysteries of Newgrange. Few people in the country are better-placed to become familiar with these fascinating landmarks.

Culture Night at the Draíocht Theatre - Friday 20 September

Hollystown is a mere 13 minute drive from the Draíocht Theatre, one of Dublin’s best-loved cultural spaces. While there is always an abundance of high-quality drama, comedy and music on offer at the theatre, in September you have the opportunity to experience Culture Night at the Draíocht. This includes a Youth Theatre Workshop for kids aged 14-18 and Blanchardstown Resonance II which will showcase “some of the most talented singers, bands and artists from Blanchardstown and Dublin 15”.

In Hollystown you find yourself situated between many of the most popular destinations in Ireland. As the summer draws to a close, hopefully you’ll get enough sun on the evenings and weekends to fit in everything — though plenty of these landmarks remain just as alluring in winter, not least Newgrange, whether the winter solstice is celebrated every year.…
